Helping Refugees Navigate Birth and Beyond

Giving birth is hard work!  Seriously!  You have to keep track of prenatal appointments.  Health issues arise.  Hot weather makes you drag through your day.  Where do you get prenatal vitamins and which ones are the best for you?  Not to mention, which doctor do I even schedule for appointments?  The list goes on.

What if you are in a foreign country and you can't speak the language proficiently?  I have a friend who gave birth in an Asian country.  She had an asthma attack in the middle a C-section and NO ONE spoke English!  Thankfully God sent in another nurse who spoke English well enough to let the doctor know what was happening.

The City of Refuge is so blessed to have sweet Jessie on staff.  Here is a great Facebook post highlighting some of the amazing things that Jessie does for our new friends:

Celebrating our new & expecting mothers at City of Refuge
Our birth support doula, Jessica Linneman met MeeMee this fall when MeeMee was pregnant with her son Elijah. After his birth, they've kept up their relationship with check-ins and visits. Together they planned a special way to gather our mothers with a spring wreath workshop!
Eight mothers came, along with three sweet babies. Every participant went home with a handmade wreath and baby books for their little ones. What a joyful time for celebrating and creating together! ✨
If you have a craft you'd like to share for our next workshop, we'd love to connect! Email jessie@cityofrefugecolumbia.org.
