In December I heard about World Refugee Day and I have been counting down the days until we celebrate it here at the City of Refuge!
The United Nations created World Refugee Day to honor and celebrate refugees around the world. These amazing people have such courage and resiliency as they face the hardships of being uprooted and replanted in a different country and culture. Many of our new friends have been forced to flee their country because of war, famine or persecution. Just yesterday, one of my sweet friends told me that she bounced from Burma to Malaysia to America. I know that she was placed in another state but her family moved to Columbia after hearing about the support that CoR offers in Columbia. Another young friend from Afghanistan told me that they fled Afghanistan and were flown to Germany. From Germany they flew to another US city and then on to a military installation. After that, they flew to Columbia and were settled here. I can only imagine the uncertainty for these families!

Each year WRD falls on June 20th but that day falls so close to Father's Day. Because of its proximity to this special day, we are opting to celebrate WRD this year on Saturday, June 25th.

Here at the City of Refuge, we are "knee deep" in planning this event and I can't wait to see all of the details come together. It will be the event of the year, in my humble opinion! In years past, we have had cultural food samplings, cultural dances, and more! We would love to have you put June 25th on your family's calendar. What a fun way to introduce cultural experiences to our next generation.
And of some have compassion, making a difference: Jude 1:22 KJV
