Graduation At the City of Refuge

One of the joys of working at the City of Refuge is when I get to participate in a class or an event.  My role is capacity building so I document the journey to aid in future classes or events.

Last night Shane (Winter Financial Coaching, LLC) and his friend Loretta had an amazing party for the refugees who have been attending the Financial Literacy class every Monday night.  A big thanks to HyVee for supplying the cake and ice cream!

Loretta did such a great job with the decorations!  I had so much fun watching the faces of our friends as they entered the classroom area and saw the festive atmosphere.  These people are so humble and I doubted that they had expected such a "to do" over them.

A perk of the grant was that each person got a $125 Visa gift card because they had hit the 3 month milestone of classes.  I had so much fun watching them get the cards!  I love my job!

While we ate our yummy treats Shane talked about inflation and how it relates to each of us.  The young men in the group felt comfortable enough to ask questions (makes my inner teacher happy) and we veered off into politics and how war affects inflation.  Remember the ration books of old?  The ladies of the group were intrigued by that concept!

And of some have compassion, making a difference: Jude 1:22 KJV
